Owen was born in Queensland on the 28th of July 1915. In 1930 Owen attended Swinburne Art College in Melbourne until
completing his Art course in 1933.
He began working with a process engraver in Melbourne and was employed as an artist preparing artwork for printing blocks.
Owen left this employment in 1936 and played the drums with Jazz
bands until 1939-40, then moved to Sydney in the early years of the second world war.
Owen married Florence, a Melbourne girl and was employed as an ambulance officer with Sydney Central District Service.
On returning to Melbourne in 1942 Owen made the decision to join the
A.I.F. and was posted to New Guinea.
In 1945, discharged from military service Owen began work in
Melbourne as a graphic artist for various agencies and won a National Award for his design work, then in 1947 he furthered his education at George Bell's Drawing and Painting School.
Many years of graphic design for Melbourne Agencies was followed by
a successful freelance career working at home in a backyard studio.
During these years Owen refined other skills as a boatbuilder and
cabinetmaker.

After retiring from the graphic art world in 1980, Owen has had more
time for fine art and many of the paintings shown here are from the later years.
Now living at Palmwoods in Queensland, Owen has a studio and
continues to paint with great verve and
imagination well into his 10th decade. |
